In October, I will teach a new online course. The course will be synchronous. It will be about Travesti Theory. This course will teach you the basic ideas of travesti theory as they have developed over time. “Travesti” is a term used in South America to describe a specific type of trans identity. This term changed over time and was used in different situations, like theatrical shows, sex work, and political statements. Travesti is a term that criticizes the idea that there are only two genders and takes the the term often used as an insult to draw attention to the long history of discrimination and marginalization.
The course consists of five weekly sessions in October, available in English and Spanish. The course syllabus is available here. Please note that the dates are tentative, as the final decision about date and time will be communicated to registered students.
